Simplifying Supply Chain Compliance for Additional Critical Minerals

Pilot Reporting Template (PRT)

The Pilot Reporting Template (PRT) is a standardized reporting tool the developed by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) to support the disclosure of information on additional minerals beyond the commonly regulated conflict minerals. It was formally launched on November 11, 2022.

Key Benefits and Goals of the Pilot Reporting Template (PRT)

While the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) primarily addresses tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold (3TG), and the Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) covers cobalt and mica, the Pilot Reporting Template (PRT) provides a standardized approach for documenting and managing supply chain data for minerals beyond these—additional critical or high-risk materials such as copper, nickel or lithium.

It helps companies accurately document the origin, chain of custody, and due diligence processes related to these minerals, ensuring transparency and compliance with international standards. The PRT is widely used by organizations seeking to enhance their supply chain responsibility and meet evolving regulatory requirements.

The Future of the Pilot Reporting Template (PRT)

With the release of version 1.2 on October 4, 2024, the Pilot Reporting Template (PRT) will transition to the Additional Minerals Reporting Template (AMRT), marking the conclusion of its pilot phase. This change reflects a significant evolution in its scope and capabilities.

The Additional Minerals Reporting Template (AMRT) aims to enhance responsible mineral sourcing by collecting data from its members to identify and list a broader range of minerals in the future. It will produce comprehensive lists of compliant smelters, similar to existing ones for 3TG, cobalt, and mica. By analyzing supply chain risks, AMRT empowers businesses with essential insights for informed decision-making, fostering trust, and promoting sustainable practices, ultimately elevating responsible sourcing efforts to new heights.

In April 2025, the Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) will incorporate additional minerals, including copper, natural graphite, lithium, and nickel, addressing critical reporting requirements under the EU Battery Regulation. This expansion enhances RMI's capacity to identify new facilities in these supply chains, particularly with copper, which has a substantial number of identified eligible facilities. EMRT 2.0 will also introduce an optional mine-level facility tab, building on the features offered in PRT 1.1.
